This project provides long term accommodation for eight young homeless people and those at risk of rough sleeping aged 16-23 years. The project provides support for the most isolated and socially excluded young people in the borough, preparing them for independent living, training them to budget, cook and run a home. The accommodation consists of eight self contained flats where young people can stay for up to 18 months and develop the skills and support network to sustain their own tenancy and lead a full life in the community. The project provides a coordinated service with local agencies in Oldham and is funded through Supporting People, Oldham Youth Offending Service, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and Drugs & Alcohol Action Team.
Porter Street was used as a Best Practice Model by CLG at a recent conference. Download this case study for more information.
